The Church of the Holy Sepulchre
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre (aka the Church of the Resurrection), is a church within the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.
The church gathers the two of the most important and the holiest Christian sites – the Calvary or the place where Jesus Christ was crucified and a place where is said he has been buried and after that resurrected. The church is included in Via Dolorosa or the final route of Jesus’ Passion as last four stations.
The wider complex around the Church of Holy Sepulchre serves as the HQ of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem while the control of the church is shared between a few Christian denominations – Armenian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic and others including Ethiopians, Egyptian Copts and Syrians.
